Germany Fails to Classify Hezbollah as a Terrorist Organization

(Worthy News) – Germany will not designate Hezbollah, an Iranian-back Shiite group, as a terrorist organization according to various news reports.

The White House has been pressuring its European Allies to curb Iranian influence in the Middle East.

Last month, the United Kingdom declared that all factions of Hezbollah are banned in the country.

“Hezbollah is continuing in its attempts to destabilize the fragile situation in the Middle East, and we are no longer able to distinguish between their already banned military wing and the political party,” Britain’s home secretary Sajid Javid said.

Germany disagreed with its allies and claimed that the political arm of Hezbollah remained relevant in Lebanese society as the group controls three of 30 ministries in Lebanon’s government.

Hezbollah was founded in 1982 by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. It has been listed as a terrorist organization by the United States since 1997. In 2013, the European Union classified Hezbollah’s military wing as a terrorist group.
