(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump has called state governors “weak” amid ongoing riots rocking American cities, prompting thousands of arrests.

Trump spoke Monday to governors, law enforcement, and security officials about the nationwide unrest. The clashes erupted after the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25.

Speaking at a video conference, Trump told the state leaders they “have to get much tougher” because “Most of you are weak.” Trump added: “You have to arrest people.”

However, the latest reports suggested more than 4,400 people were detained in often violent protests across the country this weekend alone.

The tally by the Associated Press (AP) news agency from at least 36 cities included arrests for a range of reasons, from breaking curfews to blocking highways and theft.

With days of violence spreading towards the White House, the Secret Service moved Trump to a secure bunker for the second time in three nights. On Friday, he was also brought to the bunker beneath the White House, built to house the president in case of a nuclear attack.

It was a precaution due to growing demonstrations late Sunday near the White House and the National Mall.

The activism began peaceful earlier but turned violent after dark, with some demonstrators setting multiple fires. Washington, D.C., police fired tear gas and pepper bullets to disperse protesters.

Crowds also turned their rage on a Fox News television crew over the weekend, chasing and pummeling the journalists outside the White House during a live broadcast.

A camera was smashed when an attacker tried to grab it.

The crew, which consisted of reporter Leland Vittert, cameraman Christian Galdabini and two security staffers – one of whom was punched in the face and knocked to the ground – eventually made it to safety.
